Respirator Fit Testing

According to section G8.5 of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, employers must implement an effective protective equipment program when protecting workers against chemical exposure or an oxygen deficient atmosphere. The program must include respirator fit testing.

We provide on-site qualitative respirator fit tests in accordance with CSA Standard CAN/CSA-Z94.4-02 to ensure compliance with OHS regulation and minimize workplace injury.

A qualitative fit test relies on a person's ability to detect a particular test agent. We typically use a bitter tasting test agent. Once the worker can detect the agent, a user seal check is performed and fit test exercises are conducted to detect any leakage in the respirator. The result is a pass or fail. We document the entire testing procedure for each worker and provide a copy for your records.
